Manalapan High School announces recent outstanding accomplishments by seniors, Craig Hiller and Andrew Feldman. Andrew and Craig have been honored with prestigious state-wide awards in the science discipline.

Andrew Feldman received a first place award at the 50th Year Celebration of the Monmouth Junior Science Symposium (MJSS) hosted by Monmouth University (MU) late last month.

According to MU officials, the goal of the Monmouth Junior Science Symposium is to encourage research and experimentation in the sciences, engineering and mathematics at the high school level and to honor students for outstanding achievement. Andrew’s project was titled, “Acoustic Imaging Using Optimized Beam-Forming Techniques.” Acoustic array technology is a rapidly growing field of study and has already found applications in a range of fields such as aircraft testing, materials testing, SONAR, and speech tracking and recognition. Andrew designed and built an improved acoustic array for far-field acoustic imaging. He was also commended for making an extraordinary presentation at the two-day symposium. As a result of his accomplishments, Andrew has advanced to the National Junior Science and Humanity Symposium which will be held in Bethesda, Maryland, April 28-May 2. He received numerous cash awards, tuition scholarships and an all-expense paid trip to Bethesda. “It was great to meet other student researchers and have a venue for presenting our research. I look forward to putting in my best effort at the National JSHS Presentations,” shared Andrew.

Similarly, MNHS senior Craig Hiller received the highest honor in the computer science category of the 2012 Delaware Valley Science Fair. In addition, Craig also won the $200 Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award, the $200 Leonardo da Vinci Society Award and The Dietrich W. Botstiber Foundation Award. The Dietrich W. Botstiber Award is a scholarship to any university for four years. Craig will receive $2,000 for each year he is enrolled. Craig also received an award from the American Society of Naval Engineers and the Air Force Recruiting Service for his exceptional work.

“Both projects were an exemplification of excellence, attention to detail and self-motivation. Craig and Andrew are both a source of pride to the Manalapan High School’s Science and Engineering Specialized Learning Center,” shared Mrs. Bharathi Srinivas. Mrs. Srinivas serves as a teacher for the Science and Engineering Specialized Learning Center.
