$17.2M Solar Farm Constructed at The Village at Manalapan

A 3.6 mega-watt solar system was installed at the future shopping center on Rt. 33.

Mercury Solar Systems, one of the chief solar integrators on the East Coast, completed installing a 3.6MW system at the Village at Manalapan, a future shopping center on Rt. 33, yesterday, according to a press release issued by the company.

This system is one of the largest ground-mounted and grid-interconnected solar systems in the state. Over 12,000 solar panels were placed on the ground of the property where a future 500,000 sq. ft. shopping center and they are expected to churn out 4.5 million kilowatt hours annually - which is enough energy to power about 450 houses each year, the release said.

To further put things in perspective, this solar system will rid the earth of approximately 3,100 metric tons of carbon equivalent emissions from the atmosphere every year or about the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by about 609 cars.

“This ground mount is the largest system we have designed and installed to date and underscores the continued strength of the utility-scale solar market in New Jersey,” Frank Alfano, CEO of Mercury Solar Systems, said in the release.

Mercury Solar Systems partnered up with Spano Partners Holdings, the land and project developer, along with NJR Clean Energy Ventures, the owner of the solar system. The solar project cost $17.2 million.
