Police: Couple Tries to Steal Cart of Baby Formula from Target
An employee was assaulted during the attempt, Manalapan police said.
On Sunday, Jan. 15 Manalapan Police responded to the Target store, located at the Epicentre Shopping Center on Rt. 9, for a reported robbery, according to police. Two suspects, a male and female, attempted to steal baby formula valued at $1,437.06 from the store, police said.
As the man and woman attempted to leave the Target store with the baby formula a Target loss prevention officer approached them and attempted to stop them. The male suspect then began to physically assault the loss prevention officer and then fled on foot towards Rt. 9.
According to Capt. Chris Marsala, the male suspect is black, 5'11", about 180 to 200 lbs., has a mustache, and appears to be in his late 20s or early 30s; the female suspect is black, 5'9", approximately 300 lbs., and appears to be in her late 30s or early 40s.
Police reported that the couple may have entered a blue Toyota Camry with Virginia registration. The Target loss prevention officer was sent to CentraState Medical Center to be treated for his injuries of contusions, a broken finger, and a sprained arm. Manalapan Police said that they will not release the identity of the victim.
Target security informed the Manalapan police that this couple has hit other stores, Marsala said, but as of right now the Manalapan Police Department is working alone in this investigation. The locations of the other Target locations robbed by this couple are unknown to the police at this time.
Video surveillance and stills from the robbery have been released by police. If anyone has information about this incident, or if you can gain insight from the video surveillance as to who these suspects are please call the Manalapan Police Department at 732-446-4300.
