UPDATE: Jennifer Mahoney Faces Federal Charges of Sexual Exploitation, Explicit Details Revealed
She filmed the sexual assault with a 5-year-old girl and streamed it over the internet.
A complaint filed today charges Manalapan resident Jennifer Mahoney on two counts of sexual exploitation of a 5-year-old girl. Mahoney allegedly abused the girl on multiple occasions and streamed footage of the sexual assault over the internet, according to New Jersey U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman and Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.
Mahoney, 32, is currently being held in Monmouth County Correctional Institute in default of $500,000 bail on related charges, including aggravated sexual assault of a minor, child endangerment, and child pornography. Mahoney will appear in front U.S. Magistrate Judge Tonianne J. Bongiovanni in Trenton federal court on Jan. 30.
“According to the Complaint, Jennifer Mahoney sexually assaulted a child, cavalierly recording and sharing the girl’s humiliation over video chat,” U.S. Attorney Fishman said. “We cannot forget that for every image or video of what we call ‘child pornography,’ a child will carry the lifelong scars of rape and abuse recorded for others’ gratification. Whether making, distributing or viewing child pornography, the depraved appetites of offenders create a market for the destruction of a child’s innocence.”
On Dec. 13, special agents of the FBI and other law enforcement executed a search warrant at Mahoney’s residence on Becket Rd. in Manalapan Township. Mahoney was arrested by Manalapan Police on that date. In an interview with the FBI she admitted to performing oral sex on the 5-year-old girl while she was babysitting her on two separate occasions in August and September of 2011, according to the complaint.
A computer had been seized by law enforcement in Texas which contained three videos of Mahoney having sexual contact with a child on Oct. 2, 2011, the complaint filed in Trenton federal court said. Mahoney live-streamed herself having sexual contact with the child to the Texas man over video chat via Skype.
Two of the videos found on the man’s computer consisted of the video chat where Mahoney is molesting the child, laughing, and talking to someone, believed to be the person on the other end of the video chat. Mahoney believed this man lived in Arizona, he is listed as a co-conspirator in the complaint. She e-mailed the video recordings of the sexual acts to this man and one other individual. She filmed the sexual assaults on her iPhone.
These videos are approximately four minutes in length and show Mahoney performing oral sex on the child while she appears to be asleep, lying on her stomach with her buttocks exposed. Mahoney is wearing a lace top which exposes her breasts and is kneeling at the foot of the bed while she is performing the sexual assault. Mahoney masturbates at one point during the assault, according to the FBI.
The third video recovered from the Texas man’s computer is less than a minute in length and it shows Mahoney sexually assaulting the child in a bathtub while Mahoney films the assault on her iPhone, the complaint said. Mahoney tells the little girl to bend over so that she can rinse her.
"Like a mermaid?" the child asks.
"Like a mermaid, sweetheart," Mahoney responds, before penetrating the child with her finger.
“Ms. Mahoney is charged with committing heinous acts of sexual violence against a young child, and then streaming her crimes over the Internet,” Assistant Attorney General Breuer said. “These allegations are shocking in their depravity. When individuals exploit children for any purpose, we must act swiftly and decisively to hold them accountable.”
Every individual charge of sexual exploitation of children carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison, a possible maximum penalty of 30 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine.
“The sexual exploitation of children continues to be a primary law enforcement concern, and this case is among the most egregious in that it involves manufacture and dissemination elements, which is the engine that drives the problem,” Michael B. Ward, Special Agent In Charge of the FBI’s Newark Field Office, said. “Conduct like this can forever shatter the innocence of a 5-year-old child, allegedly for the pleasure of Jennifer Mahoney and an Internet partner. The impact on the victim, family, and others is immeasurable.”
Fishman is grateful to the FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent Ward and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Prosecutor Peter E. Warshaw Jr. for the investigation which eventually lead to these federal charges.
Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide plan which battles the increasing spread of child exploitation ab abuse was launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, and this case is part of that effort which is led by U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section in the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. Project Safe Childhood gathers federal, state, and local resources to find, arrest, and prosecute individuals who exploit children and identify and rescue those victims.
Assistant U.S. Attorney in Trenton and CEOS Trial Attorney Keith A. Becker in Washington are representing the government.
The charges and allegations contained in the Complaint are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

I believe this story happened because she was looking for approval and attention of these guys on the internet, yes she could have said no but the sickest people in this story is the guys watching it, you know they told her to do it

I didn't see anyone there with a gun to her head. She probably made $$ for this. Are you kidding, blaming it on the men? Would YOU do this just because some guy asked you to? Seriously.

I hope you're kidding. The sickest person is the one who physically commits the crime. If people told her to do it then they should be punished as well, but she is the one who had the power and ability to protect the child and instead she did the opposite. Also, how come every time a woman commits a crime such as this there are people who are always searching for a reason or justification as to why it happened whereas when a man does the same thing no one wants to hear about anything other than life imprisonment or call for the death penalty in such cases?

I can believe that perhaps this woman's low self-esteem might have encouraged her to commit these monstrous crimes on the little girl, but to say that the "sickest people" are the guys watching it? Sure, they're disgusting individuals, but that hardly lessens this woman's insanity and capacity for evil. And your "you know they told her to do it" comment is mind-blowing. Something tells me Mahoney isn't the only person suffering low self-esteem and a need for approval and attention here.

Kendra, really? I believe this is one of the most disgusting crimes physically possible. However, where in this story does it even remotely discuss the female suspect as being forced or convinced by the male suspect ? Please feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken. This is a case about how a young child was deliberately humiliated and scared for life by crimes commuted to her via a highly disturbed human being. I just fail to understand how you can take from it that she was forced or convinced into doing so? Yes the male suspected is a sick and disturbed individual, yet how can we make the accusation he is more at fault then the individual who actually put their hands on the child. You insult the male sex by stereotyping that men are dominate and must be at fault. As well as insulting the female sex by generalizing that the suspect was a female so she MUST have been tricked into committing these acts by the male. Please assist me in understand your incomprehensible logic.

I believe Kendra's concept of this sicko seeking attention and approval on the internet is indeed somewhat plausible. I think it is reasonable to agree that this motivation was a part of this pedophile's twisted and diabolical actions.

I think Kendra's concept is valid - and Jennifer had incredibly low self esteem and was seeking his approval. Hopefully whatever happens she will receive the help she needs as does the child. Hopefully she will not be condemned until she has had a fair trial - though judging by her picture being splashed all over here and the comments that doesn't seem likely.

What a double standard! If this were a guy that had done "oral" on this little girl or special bath time then 99.999999% of the people would want him shot. Her being a woman makes it excusable??? Stop making excuses for her. Guys cant have low self esteem? These are invalid excuses. You can say that anyone that contributes to a crime as such has some mental issues and its sad but in the end the net result is the same. An innocent girl was raped.

Jennifer had low self esteem?? She is a mentally depraved individual. This poor little girl is going to be scarred for the rest of her life because of the actions of this mentally sick woman. The article clearly states that the FBI has a ton of evidence against her. She will get her day in court, with the tax payers footing the bill.

An individual is responsible for their actions. Wither they seek the attention of others or not is immaterial. Not protecting ones self is stupid. Not protecting those we have been intrusted with is criminal. A child should always have special protection as they are the most vulnerable.

I clearly believe she was seeking the approval of the guy she sent the video too, and he is just as guilty as she is for viewing this sickness. No matter what a child is ruin; maybe for the rest of her life, she had no idea what this sick (B-tch) was doing to her for the enjoyment of another sick b-stard. They both should be in prison for a very long time and if there is any justice let their fellow future inmates cleanse the gene pool.

Feel like vomiting. This woman was trusted by this childs parents to care for her in their absence. We all have sitters for our kids that we believe are trustworthy. How do we really know who we can trust and by the time something happens it is to late. I do not believe pedophiles can be rehabilitated and we should not waste our tax $$ to try. Hard labor and a lifetime of hell is all they deserve. She stole the innocence of a child and perhaps forever scarred her, why does she deserve any better. There should be a life sentence for child pornography and the rape or sexual assault of child. I am sure someone here will come back at me with some liberal reason why I am cruel but thats ok, wont convince or change my mind in anyway, lock her up and throw away the key!!!

What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? We have already locked her up and are throwing away the key before she has had her day in court - something obviously is wrong with our society if they are willing to forgo our most basic right as Americans. This entire story is very sad and, if true, many lives have been ruined or harmed - however I would like to see our justice system be applied before we throw anyone's key away. By the way I am as conservative as they come but believe in our rights and our constitution - you should too.

@ Stephanie - it makes me nervous how people are so quick to condemn based on a news article. Remember this - only one side of a story is presented here - the facts are being presented exactly the way the prosecution would like them to appear in the media. Her side has not been presented - the evidence has not been examined, proven or disputed in any way. I would much rather have our system work than to have a mob mentality judge, condemn and sentence her before she was even able to defend herself or speak on her own behalf. This is a news article - not a court of law. If she is guilty she will be proven so in a court of law. Casey Anthony went free - but 12 people set her free. I did not agree - I did not agree with OJ's verdict or Michael Jacksons either - however I would rather let our system stand than have people like you and others in this thread be Judge, Jury and executioner. What makes this country so amazing is our rights - and dear Stephanie if you want your rights - then you certainly have to allow others theirs - one being innocent until proven guilty - and may you never be on the other end of a situation where your sentenced before your day in court - I guarantee you will want your day in court.

@ Amber - as tempted as I am to respond with a knee-jerk irate reaction to your comments, I'll pay you the courtesy of a civil response. There exists at least 3 videos depicting the horriific abuse this woman perpetrated on the 5-year old girl. Some of the ugly details are in the article. Did the little girl's innocent "like a mermaid?" question and subsequent rape not break your heart, as it did mine? As a parent of a small child, I question if you would be able to watch and hear LIVE VIDEO and testimony with the same cool-headed demeanor you advocate for this trial. I know I couldn't, and I question the character, humanity and integrity of anyone who could...
Amber Wright
7:28 am on Tuesday, January 31, 2012
You have seen these videos first hand? You have examined them and know they have not been altered or you are believing what you read and are basing your sentence on a newspaper article? I am not defending her or her actions - I am however saying that before you condemn her and her actions she is allowed to have her day in court - guilty or innocent the court is the place for her to be sentenced. Funny there is no public outrage over Woody Allen taking naked pictures, having a sexual affair and subsequently marrying a child he raised as his daughter and who his own children say they will not have contact with because of his moralls. The library had a woody allen event last week - where was everyone's outrage then? I hate societys ability to forgive celebrity anything and condemn others. Let her have her basic right to a fair trial before convicted.
Michael Jackson is another one - a child said he raped him - he was paid $22 million dollars in a settlement yet because MJ could sing and dance people defended him & ignored or blamed the child yet with Jennifer it is throw away the key - it really is sickening on many levels. As a mother I would hope that if my child were ever accused of anything they would get a fair trial not a public hanging based on information the prosecution released and a few news articles. If you want your children raised in a society like that then I question your character and intergrity..

Again you would kill her before you viewed the evidence, before she got to say anything or defend herself - wow - maybe all you people should move to another country because in this country you are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Really it is scary how people think and how easily they are willing to overlook our basic rights as Americans.

@Amber. This woman admitted to abusing the girl and there are videos of her committing these crimes. Who cares if her trial reveals that someone put her up to it, or that she was abused as a child, or that she is mentally ill, or whatever spin her lawyer tries to put on it? The end result is that a child's innocence was stolen and that poor girl will be forever scarred. If someone literally had a gun to my head, I would not think twice about choosing to die before doing something like this. There is not a question that she did it, the trial is only going to be for making excuses about why she did it. Maybe Jennifer Mahoney was a victim of some other crime, but that doesn't change the fact that she is guilty of this one.

Wow Stephanie - thanks to you being judge, jury and warden we can close this case. Stephanie declared her guilty - with nothing more than a few news articles - case closed. Imagine all those attorneys, judges, forensic experts, psychologists you just dismissed from testifying - job well done. Can you solve the middle east peace crisis so easily as well?
This is all hearsay at this point - why is everyone so willing to believe a news article and discount her day in court - I for one do not care if she is innocent or guilty (other than to feel sad for all involved) however I do care that our society is so willing to bypass our most basic legal rights. Careful people, someday you too may be accused of something you may or may not have done - I am POSITIVE you would want your fair trial and your ability to defend yourself before society condemns you. Lets see them take it away from us and see how everyone responds - so don't be so quick to take it away from another.

Its amazing how so many people keep saying Jennifer's mental state made her do it, she was coerced, she was looking for approval. Well you know what the only side she should have been worried about was the side of this child, whom she has DESTROYED!!. She should be coerced straight to prison and let them molest her nasty tail. And of course now she is crying crocodile tears that's what GUILTY people do when they are caught she had absolutely no remorse when she offended this child. And to say or even suggest we should hear her side(her side) please she has no side. She was wrong she was wrong she was wrong and should be punished the problem with this country is they go to lightly on the criminals they favor and not hard enough on heinous crimes like these.
Amber Wright
4:11 pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2012
How do you know why she was crying? did you speak to her or anyone who did? Did you examine any of the evidence or view the video tapes - or are you suddenly a qualified attorney, judge and executioner because you read 4 or 5 news articles and made your determination based on one side reposrting? Wow with this intelligent group we can just close the court houses and stop allowing people to be presumed innocent until PROVEN guilty. Really - isn't there a plane leaving for some 3rd world country you all should be on? Here is an idea - why don't we have them put her in the middle of town and we can stone her to death before she even has a trial. Save the tax payers a great deal of money wouldn't it. Just remember those stones get thrown in all directions and someday it might be yours - I bet you would ask for a trial then wouldn't you. Such a smart bunch here - stone her to death - I am an expert on this case - I read 4 news articles that the prosecution reported with no word from the defense - so I am POSITIVE she did it.
Do you realize how pathetic, ill informed and ignorant you all sound? Sad - so sad - people fought and died so we could have the rights we have - being innocent until proven guilty is the most basic. Whether she is guilty or not she deserves her trial.

@ Powers - she allegedly - also do you know the circumstances she was questioned under? She is entitled, under our bill of rights, to a fair trial and to the assumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law or until she admits guilt in a court of law. My point is not to argue her guilt or innocence put to argue for her American given right of a fair trial before she is condemned. The comments here are ignorant as no one here knows anything more than what was reported. Do you people realize the prosecution does this to get the public on their side - makes it easy if you people were selected for the Jury as you have already convicted her without seeing one single piece of real evidence, without hearing one single word from the defense, without anything more than a few news articles. There is an expression you can't argue with stupid so I am done with this topic....
