Latest Burglaries and Thefts in the Township
Manalapan police have reported a variety of thefts.
The Manalapan Township Police Department is reporting a number of recent burglaries within the past week.
Home Burglaries:
- An Iron Ore Rd. home was burglarized sometime between 8:15 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Feb. 17, the homeowner told police. Police discovered, during the course of an investigation, that the burglars entered the residence by forcing a rear door open which lead to the garage. Once inside the garage, the burglars forced open a door which lead to the home. Nothing was stolen from the residence.
- On Feb. 16, a Manalapan woman told police that a number of items were stolen from her deceased mother's condominium located at Covered Bridge. The objects stolen were valued at $695 and were taken from the enclosed front porch, which was unlocked.
Car Burglaries:
- On Feb. 16, a Manalapan man's car was burglarized when it was parked in the Wegman's parking lot and a digital camcorder was stolen. Police reviewed surveillance footage from Wegmans and discovered that two people were trying to gain entry into many motor vehicles by pulling on the door handles. The suspects were scene gaining entry to the victim's unlocked vehicle.
Thefts:
- On Feb. 16, a male suspect received $53.55 of gas from the Citgo Gas Station located on Rt. 33 West. The man's credit card was denied and he subsequently left the scene without paying the $53.55 for the gas. The police tracked the suspect down to his Manalapan residence and brought him back to the gas station to pay back the debt.
- Over $2,000 worth of razors were stolen from the CVS located on Woodward Rd. on two separate occassions. A male suspect shoplifted the razors on Feb. 3 at around 7:45 p.m. and on Feb. 15 at around 6:35 p.m.
- Craig Shapiro, a resident of Crystal Court, has been charged with theft of services for failing to pay for yard work completed on his property by Earth Effects Landscaping Company valued at $825. Earth Effects Landscaping is located in Howell.
- On Feb. 14, a Manalapan resident told police that her 15-year-old son's iPod and $6 in cash was stolen from his bag while he was playing soccer at the Manalapan Recreation Center. The iPod is valued at about $600. The two suspects are male and in their mid-20s. One suspect is described as white and wearing a blue shirt and white shorts; the second suspect is described as Hispanic and wearing a black sweatshirt and black shorts. The two men left the area in a black pick-up truck, possibly a Honda, sometime between 4 p.m. and 5:20 p.m.
