Nor'easter Leaves Over 5K Without Power in Manalapan
Almost 5,500 residents are without electricity Thursday
After 99 percent of Manalapan was restored with electricity yesterday, Winter Storm Athena came through the area and decided to wreak some havoc. High winds and heavy snow caused additional power outages yesterday and last night leaving almost 5,500 Manalapan Township residents without power.
The Manalapan Township municipal government has issued a statement declaring their awareness of the additional power outages and asks residents to directly contact Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) at 888-544-4877 or 800-662-3115 to report the outage. Please also call to report any downed power lines and please be sure to avoid any hanging wires.
The Manalapan Department of Public Works is working to clean up the streets within the Township and the Township asks residents to avoid any unnecessary travel.

A friend of mine lives in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn. She never lost power in the storm probably because there were no trees near her apartment. That said, I think all suburban towns should rethink their need for huge, towering trees. Buy and plant trees that don't grow to tall or at least don't plant tall treees close to power lines or your roof. Perhaps then we won't have so many power outages since the utility companies have no intention in burying power lines on existing housing.

JCP&L should have done what they said after Irene. They sent out letters to all their customers stating that they would go around and trim or take down any trees that were too close to overhead wires. Well we had a very mild winter after Irene and had plenty of time to do so. They should be held accountable for this mess. A lot of this mess could have been avoided! What a disgrace!!!!!
