Pair Indicted on Charges of Shoplifting and Drug Possession
Neither of the accused is from Manalapan Township.
The Monmouth County Grand Jury indicted a man and a woman for shoplifting merchandise from Wegmans, located on Rt. 9 South in Manalapan Township, valued at approximately $2,300.
Jiovanni Montero-Lopez of Brentwood, New Jersey and Raniqua Bolton of Hempstead, New York committed the crime of shoplifting on July 10, 2011, according to the indictment.
Montero-Lopez, 28, and Bolton, 25, attempted to leave Wegmans with $2,365.58 worth of health and beauty products in their possession, police reported in mid-July. Among the items stolen were Crest Whitening Strips, Nicorette Gum and Prilosec.
Additionally, Montero-Lopez was indicted on a charge of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, namely heroin. According to the police report, Montero-Lopez had the drug and a hypodermic needle in his possession.
Regardless of the charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution and state law.
