Two Soccer Teams Break into Fight at Memorial Day Tournament

Ptl. Kevin Ruditsky and many other Manalapan police officers responded to the football field on Sunday, May 27 at approximately 1 p.m. for a report of a fight between two soccer teams that were competing in the Manalapan Soccer Club Memorial Day Tournament, Lt. Mike Fountain of the said.

Police officers discovered that the players of the two teams began fighting after the soccer game had completed and the players had lined up to shake hands.

A 48-year-old soccer coach of one of the teams that was involved in the fight began to restrain some players, Fountain said. Upset at the way his son was being restrained by the coach, a 44-year-old Marlboro man punched the coach in the face with a closed fist, according to a police report. The coach was not injured.

Shortly after the assault, all involved parties scattered. No one wished to file any criminal complaints. Since there were no official complaints or any arrests, police can not reveal the names of the individuals involved in the incident.

"Each person involved could potentially be a victim," Lt. Fountain said.
