11 Things People Want to See Happen in Manalapan In 2014

Upping and lowering speed limits, a new paved path at the Rec Center and a pool club is on the list.

A paved path at the rec center would be nice, said one resident.

On Tuesday we asked Manalapan Patch Facebook readers to comment on "It's a new year, and a chance for improvements. What changes do you want to see in town?"

Here is what they said:

  • A higher speed limit in Englishtown LOL.
  • Being able to blow leaves into the street and have them picked up!
  • Would love to see a paved walking trail at the Recreation Center/Park.
  • Street cleaning to resume - so much trash on our roads!
  • A traffic light on Symmes right before Route 9 where everyone goes through the stop sign coming out of the parking lot across from the park-and-ride. I have seen people not even think about stopping and go barreling thru doing 30.
  • More than 35 mph on Kozloski Road!!!
  • We need a traffic light at Pension Rd. and Gordon's Corner Rd. The accidents can be fatal!
  • Raceway Park court order enforced.
  • Higher speed limits on side roads of Englishtown or actually enforce ones that are posted.
  • Have the park on Manor Drive renovated.
  • Wish we had a beautiful pool club like Howell Pointe Swim Club!!!

What is on your wish list? Post in the comment box below.

I like the comment cleaner roads. If the township doesn't have the man power HIRE !! or, use convicts like in the south...

Do not use convicts. Plenty of residents and kids over 18 that can be offered those jobs. Why bring criminals into our neighborhoods.

Fix up the bathrooms at The Rec Center !!! The bathrooms over at the rec center are such an embarrassment for our own residents to use and for all of the towns that come to our twp for The Sporting Events over at the rec. It is sad when people would rather use the port a pots over the bathrooms. I have heard about plenty of volunteers that would help out with redoing the bathrooms, I just do not understand why they are not getting the attention that they so badly need ?

Changing the traffic flow and adding traffic lights on Church Lane. Only one access road (Tennent Road) into the High School makes traffic unbearable for ALL residents when there is something going on @ high school, especially during rush hour. Took me almost 20 minutes to go from Main St. Tennent traffic light to just making the left turn onto Church (and I had no wait to turn, as there was a break in the traffic) If you cant add a light, at least widen the road to iniclude a LEFT turn lane off of Tennent onto Church.

Also, make access from Rt 522 BOTH directions, not just a one way, add a light there!

25 MPH speed limit the entire length of Main Street in Tennent, with speed cameras to catch the jerks who think they can race back and forth on it at 50 MPH.

I would like the snow plows not to throw snow back in our driveways after we have shoveled. They do a good job clearing the streets but should be more careful in not putting it back.
PAC January 23, 2014 at 07:21 AM
Sarah...afer spending over 2 hours shoveling yesterday, I agree with you...but...how can they effectively plow all the streets in our town quickly without pushing the snow to the side of the streets???

Absolutely revive those street cleaners!! My neighbor has brush still out from the last "pick up". None of the sewers work as they should when there are leaves and debris from months ago. How come all of the residents see it but NOT the Mayor's office. <smh>
Jerry January 28, 2014 at 09:12 AM
Memo to those asking for street cleaning: buy a broom and a shovel.

Seriously?? What you dont like your job???
Jerry January 29, 2014 at 11:37 AM
Geneen, if your comment is a response to mine, I have to report that I don't understand it.
Geneen G January 29, 2014 at 03:53 PM
Well i simply made a comment about street cleaning b/c sewers are loaded with debris and just coincidentally your comment looked as a mockery to me.
Jerry January 30, 2014 at 12:51 AM
Geneen, my comment, while sarcastic, was not intended to be taken as a personal mockery. That being said, I am serious. The streets of this town are generally clean but there is occasional litter and of course leaves that accumulate. I have a storm catch basin in front of my house that I periodically sweep clean. If I don't, the leaves clog the grate and the backed up storm water accumulates in front of my driveway. It's really not that hard to keep it clean. Adding what I consider a superfluous service along with added property tax to support that service is not desirable.
