Beat the Sandy Blues with Jazz at the County Library

November is Jazz Month at the Monmouth County Libraries.

November is Jazz Month for the Monmouth County Library System and while Hurricane Sandy put a little glitch in the fun, the jazz performances and education will still be rolled out this month. 

Some of the original dates of the events have changed so please take note.

Billy Lawlor's Holiday Jazz Concert 

When: Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.
Where: Wall Township Library
What: Billy Lawlor and Friends get into the seasonal spirit by performing a free holiday jazz concert at Wall Library.  Billy will be performing on the piano and singing, Tommy Labella will play the sax and Gary Mazzoroppi will play the upright bass.

Rio Clemente: Bishop of Jazz

When: Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.
Where: Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan
What: Rio Clemente is an amazing jazz pianist who has played at some of the great New York jazz hot spots. Clemente is a resident of Morristown, New Jersey and a member of their Hall of Fame. He was also named Professional Artist of the Year by the Arts Council of the Morris Area, and listed as one of the Top 40 New Jerseyans by "New Jersey Monthly Magazine" and the New Jersey Jazz Society named him Musician of the Year.


Roots and Riffs: an Introduction to Jazz and Its History

When: Friday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. - rescheduled from Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
Where: Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan
What: Jack Livingstone, a Monmouth County Library employee, will be holding a lecture all about jazz history and music. Livingstone has been inviting influential jazz musicians to the county libraries for the past 35 years.

Widespread Depression Jazz Orchestra Concert

When: Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.
Where: Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan
What: The Widespread Depression Jazz Orchestra is a nine-piece jazz ensemble founded in 1972. The band covers “a wide spectrum of styles, bridging the gap between bebop and swing, and everything in between, as well as original arrangements by band members,” according to the band's alto-saxophonist Mike Hashim.
