Doo Wop Music and a Classic Car Show

Hear old favorites from Tommy Mara and the Crests while checking out some vintage wheels.

The Manalapan Recreation Center flashes back to the 1950s on Wednesday, July 20 with a concert by . 

The concert and car show, a part of the Manalapan Arts Council Summer Concert series, will make you nostalgic of a time when you didn’t need to lock your front doors and people actually mailed letters. 

Tommy Mara has had a long career in music and has played in various bands of different genres, however, he is best known for his career in oldies and has been referred to as “the Meatloaf of Doo Wop”, according to his Web site. A couple of Mara’s best known songs are “Sixteen Candles” and “Step by Step”.

Antique and classic cars will be on display and trophies will be awarded to the top cars. If you have an old set of wheels register it for the show by calling Susan Lapkin at 732-446-8303 or e-mailing info@mtnj.org. Registration is $10 is advance and $15 the day of the show; all registrants will receive a show plaque. All checks should be made payable to the Manalapan Arts Council. 

The concert and car show will begin at 7 p.m. and awards will be given at 9:30 p.m. The evening will end with a spectacular fireworks display! Rain date is set for Aug. 24.
