History to Come to Life at Battle of Monmouth Reenactment

Step back in time Saturday and Sunday at Monmouth Battlefield State Park in Manalapan and Freehold.

Head on out to Monmouth Battlefield State Park this weekend to see the annual reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth. Sponsored by the Friends of Monmouth Battlefield and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the weekend-long event recreates scenarios of the battle within the park as hundreds of troops camp out in authentic costumes.

The Battle of Monmouth took place on June 28, 1778 between the Continental Army under General George Washington and the British Army under Lieutenant General Sir Henry Clinton during the Revolutionary War. The battle is considered a draw as both sides claimed victory.

The entire weekend will be full of presentations, lectures, tours of the camps, music, food, and, of course, reenactments! Be ready to be transported back into time and experience history. Watch the troops prepare for battle, the women cooking meals, and the troops drilling. Also, be sure to keep track of your children, or they may be drafted into one of the armies!

The camps open to the public beginning at 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The Friends of Monmouth Battlefield request an $8 donation per vehicle.
