Manalapan Parks and Recreation Travel Summer Camp Opens Up to Sixth Graders

The five week summer travel camp offers an exciting alternative to spending summer at home!

The Manalapan Parks and Recreation Travel Summer Camp has reopened for registration. Originally only open to seventh graders, the Recreation Advisory Board decided to open up registration to sixth graders, as well, due to a lack of participation.

The camp only consists of 12 campers, and at least 25 are needed in order for the camp to get group rates while they travel.

"If you are in the program now you can transfer over for the additional fee," Superintendent of Parks and Recraetion Mona Cholowinski said.

Even though registering after April 15 would require an additional $75, Cholowinski will not apply this fee since the camp is in dire need of participation.

Over 2oo students were turned away from participating in the Summer Recreation Program this summer, since the maximum number of campers had been met. Therefore, Cholowinski is hoping that some of these children will consider participating in the Travel Summer Camp.

The Travel Summer Camp begins on Tuesday, July 5 and ends on Friday, August 5. Different fun-filled locations throughout New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and New York City will be visited daily. If a trip needs to be rescheduled due to weather, local schools will be used for the day.

Anticipated destinations for Summer 2011:

The five-week travel camp costs $995, which includes all admission costs and transportation associated with each trip. Lunch is offered at no additional cost on several trips, but not every single day.

Chaperones over 18-years-old will monitor the children and supervisors will attend each trip. Shirts will be required for all children to wear on each trip as a safety precaution.

Parent manuals will be available in May. Mandatory camper orientation day will take place on Thursday, June 30 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
