Monmouth County Library Offers Free eBooks and Audiobooks

Monmouth County Library card holders can now download eBooks and audiobooks for free. The Monmouth County Library launched Library on the Go! in 2012, a reference of audiobooks and eBooks for card holders to peruse titles for download.

As long as you have a valid Monmouth County Library card, you can check out and download digital media whenever you want at http://monmouth.lib.overdrive.com.

Library on the Go! is not open to those patrons who pay to borrow books if they live outside of a municipality that is not covered by the Monmouth County Library System.

eBooks also are available for download through the Monmouth County Library’s EBSCO eBooks, which was formerly known as NetLibrary. 

There are almost 25,000 book titles, including fiction and nonfiction books for adults, children, and teenagers available through both EBSCO eBooks and Library on the Go!.

All eBooks and audiobooks may be placed on hold, just as is done so with print publications, and you can check them out for either seven or 14 days. At the end of the lending period, the book will expire and automatically be removed from the device or tablet and cannot be renewed. Therefore, there are no late fees. Only five eBooks or audiobooks can be checked out at one time. 

Patrons must be patient, however, as there may be a waiting list for popular titles since the library must purchase copies of the eBooks. 

Before the audio books and eBooks can be downloaded, some software may need to be downloaded to your device or computer. The Monmouth County Library also often offers how-to courses for those who have new eReaders and want to learn more about how to use them. The next class is streamlined for iPad users and will be held at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m.
