February activities from the Monmouth County Parks System.

Below are the scheduled activities around Monmouth County that are fun for the whole family!

Groundhog Day

Saturday, Feb. 2 from 1-4 p.m.
Historic Walnford, Upper Freehold

Learn about the history of the day, look for signs of spring and wonder how much wood you could chuck if you were a woodchuck.

Open Ceramics

Sunday, Feb. 3 from 12:30-4:30 p.m.
Creative Arts Center, 

Glaze and make your own pre-made pottery, which will be fired about a week after the event. The cost is $6 per hour plus price of bisque-ware; cash or check only. Pieces will be fired in about a week.

Krafty Kids Drop-In

Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Tatum Park, Middletown
Thursday, Feb. 7 from 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Thompson Park Visitor Center, Lincroft

Designed for ages 4 and up with an adult, kids are invited to create a craft to take home. This weekend's craft is a "News(paper) Years Project." The cost is $5 per person; cash or check only.

Coots at the Reservoir

Saturday and Sunday, February 9 and 10 at 2 p.m.
Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center, Georgia Tavern Road, Howell

Come and look for this funny winter guest. Walk like a coot and learn more about these ducks. This event is free.

Roving Park System Naturalist

Sunday, Feb. 10 at 9 a.m..
Thompson Park, Lincroft
Sunday, Feb. 23 at 9 a.m.
Tatum Park, Middletown

Walk and learn about points of interest in the park with park experts. The walking group is free and newcomers are encouraged.

Roses are Red, Violets are Blue…

Sunday, Feb. 10 from 1 - 4 p.m.
Historic Walnford, Upper Freehold

See samples of 19th century valentines and create your own token of affection.  This event is free.

Happy Birthday, Eaglets!

Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 16 and 17 at 2 p.m.
Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center, Georgia Tavern Road, Howell

Meet at Chestnut Point for this stroll. Parks employees will try to view the bald eagles through a scope. It was around Valentine's Day when last year's babies hatched. Maybe we'll see a fluffy head peaking over the nest. This event is free.

Open Shoot Archery

Saturday, Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Thompson Park, Lincroft

Try your hand at archery during this open shoot at the Activity Barn. All equipment will be provided. This is a non-instructional program open to ages 8 and up (under 18 with adult). The cost is $7 per person. Cash or check only. 

Winter Celebration of Summer Seining

Sunday, Feb. 24 from 1 - 2 p.m.
Bayshore Waterfront Park, Port Monmouth

Rediscover all the fascinating creatures and critters found during our summer seining programs through a lively PowerPoint presentation. This event is free.
