Englishtown's own ICONic Boyz dance crew was recognized Wednesday at the Manalapan Township Municipal Complex during the formal Township Committee meeting.
The Committee wanted to thank the boys for the they gave during Saturday's Manalapan Under the Stars.
In an event that drew an estimated 2,000 people, the boys performed their fresh moves for a crowd of family, friends, and excited fans.
Mayor Andrew Lucas called up George “Geo” Hubela, choreographer, owner, and manager of ICONic Dance Complex, and the ICONic Boyz to accept their proclamation.
The seven boys are:
Jason "NoBones" Smith
Louis "Da Pitbull" DiPippa
Mikey "Spikey Mikey" Fusco
Nick "Nicholicious" Mara
“On behalf of myself, the ICONic Dance Complex, the boys and the boys' families, I just want to say thank you so much for the support of the township,” said Hubela.
While the young group of boys stood quietly next to him, Hubela noted how Manalapan Day has been a way of promoting his business and how he has watched it evolve from a group of five dancers the first year to “five years later, the crowd of crazy, screaming girls.”
Hank Grassi, one of the chief organizers of Manalapan Day, was also thanked for introducing Hubela to Manalapan Township and encouraging him to open his dance studio.
As second place winners in MTV's “America’s Best Dance Crew” this past season, the boys have hip-hopped their way into the hearts of young ladies statewide and nationally.
