I Wish I Started 12 months ago

So many of us have a desire to loose weight, trim down and get healthy. Many of us tuck that desire in the back of our minds and classify fitness in the “when I get around to it category.” Taking care of the kids, carpools, our careers, the bills, the shopping and all of our other immediate daily concerns seem to take priority over health and fitness. In fact it seems that as a society we are “stuck” in this mentality of putting our health and fitness last on the list.

Just look at the facts, heart disease, type two diabetes and stroke are on the rise. In fact experts say that our children will be the first generation that has a shorter life expectancy then their parents!

Around this time of year many of us start to look through all of the things that we have filed in the “get around to it category” and begin to formulate our plans for the future. We dust off those old goals and bring them to the forefront. It is no surprise that one of the most popular goals is, “This year I am going to get in shape!”

We formulate our plans and begin to make our “New Years Resolutions.”

“I am going to go to the gym.”

“I am going to join Weight Watchers.”

“I am going to buy those videos I have been thinking of and finally do them.”

Many of us set out on our path in pursuit of our resolution and then…..

Those daily concerns resurface; Taking care of the kids, carpools, our careers, the bills, the shopping and all of our other immediate daily concerns once again take priority over health and fitness. Once again we neatly tuck our goals in the “when I get around to it category of our mind.”

Until the end of the year when we start thinking again, begin to dust off our goals and repeat the whole process. We once again start off on our path and quite possibly begin to make progress. We even say to ourselves, “Damn, I wish I started 12 months ago!” Invariably, the immediate daily concerns resurface and once again we fall into our old routines. Forgetting that we did start 12 months ago. We just did not finish what we started.

This year I would encourage you to not only make a resolution to change your body. But to make a lasting change that carries you throughout the year and beyond. Here is the formula I have used to get results in my life and the lives of hundreds of individuals that attend our MAX Transformation program.

 

  1. Conceive a Vision: Take some time to visualize your goal in your minds eye. Develop a vision that is compelling enough to keep you on track throughout the year. Write the Vision down and carry it with you. Use it as a reminder to keep you on track.
  2. Challenge Your Beliefs: The beliefs that got you to where you are will not get you to where you want to be. Be prepared to examine your beliefs and replace your current ones with more empowering beliefs that support your vision.
  3. Achieve Your Goals: Every day that you take a positive step forward towards your goal is one day closer to the attainment of your long term vision. Before long people will recognize your success and congratulate you on your accomplishments. The amazing thing is that the more they congratulate you the stronger your empowering beliefs become and the more you can achieve.

 

My greatest hope is that at the end of the year you look back and say, “WOW! I did that…… What’s Next!” instead of “I wish I started a year ago!”
