Organic Pizzeria, Naturale Cucina, Opens in Englishtown

All menu items are made with certified organic ingredients.

While New Jersey is known for Italian restaurants and pizzerias , Englishtown’s newest business, , offers a new twist on the traditional pizza pie  - it’s organic! In fact, everything on Naturale Cucina’s menu is homemade from natural and organic ingredients.

Owned by Henry Beltra of Monroe and Carlos Silberberg of East Brunswick, the restaurant, located at 34 Main St. in Englishtown, brings the concept of health to Italian cuisine.

The entire menu was formulated by Beltra’s and Silberberg’s wives and almost everything is made from scratch in the Naturale Cucina kitchen. Besides pizza, the restaurant offers an array of appetizers, salads, paninis, piadines, and desserts.

What is a piadine? A piadine is like a panini but made with pizza dough rather than a panini bread - and it is not to be missed, Beltra said.

The idea of organic and natural was incredibly important to Beltra. When his mother died two years ago, he said his life completely changed and he decided to become more healthy.

“I eat totally different then I used to,” Beltra said. “I recently lost 20 pounds, my cholesterol is the best it’s ever been ever, I’ve always had cholesterol issues, and for me it was something that I think a lot of people are paying attention to right now.”

The pizza dough used at Naturale Cucina comes from a 100 percent organic dough supplier who offers classic, whole wheat, multigrain, and gluten-free crust options. All of the dough is made with certified organic ingredients and is kosher and vegan. You can have any one of the restaurant’s 11 different kinds of pizza on any type of dough you like at the same price, with the exception of the gluten-free dough, which is an additional $4.

All of the food supplied to the restaurant, from the produce to the cheese, are certified organic and come from reputable organic vendors, according to Beltra.

While the cost of organic is more expensive, Beltra said that the resulting product is more healthy and the entire process has been “truly rewarding”. The feedback has also been extremely positive, Beltra said, with people raving about the food and routinely coming back.

Naturale Cucina was designed to look and feel like a piazza in Italy. Beltra, who is of Spanish and Cuban descent, has travelled to Italy many times, so he said he knew what he wanted the place to look like and what the food should taste like - something which his Italian wife knew a lot about, as well.

Whether you want to come by for lunch or dinner, or just sit and enjoy a homemade dessert and some espresso, the restaurant supplies simple, healthy food in a warm and inviting atmosphere. If you don’t have time to take a break out of your busy lifestyle, Naturale Cucina also offers all menu items as take-out.

Since all of the food is made fresh to order, Beltra said that he does not think the restaurant will ever offer a delivery service, as the quality of an organic pizza will change after being placed in cardboard box for a period of time and not enjoyed right out of the oven, as it is intended.

Besides Naturale Cucina, Beltra and Silberberg also own a natural stone importing and distribution company located in Pittsburgh, Pa. called Pittsburgh Granite and Marble.

Silberberg, an accountant, and his wife had previously run a hotel and are familiar with the hospitality industry and Beltra’s wife is familiar with food and the restaurant business, so it seemed natural to have their newest venture be a restaurant, and within a year they have accomplished just that.

Naturale Cucina quietly opened their doors on May 18, but are planning on holding a more formal grand opening at some point in the near future.

Sound great but any pizza restaurant that doesn't deliver will have a difficult time in succeeding.

Can't wait to come! Everything sounds wonderful and I'm so glad to see a healthier option in the area. I disagree with gjc... Customers that value health (such as organic-seeking consumers) will not be deterred by the lack of delivery. Heck, I would walk to there. Wishing Mr. Beltra and Mr. Silberberg much success! Welcome to the area :)

So glad the dough is vegan! I'm wondering if they offer vegan cheese as well.

Let's wait a year to find out how many of those healthy folks will walk to the pizzeria.

I've been here & can tell you the food is terrific! Whether or not you're into organic, vegan or even healthy food, it's the taste that matters & after having been there on three occasions I can tell you the food does not disappoint. Whatever they're doing, they're doing right!

It's a great idea but I believe they are having some growing pains. I overheard that there is only one panini press which means if there are many people in the place who've ordered paninis, be prepared to wait. We ordered the recommended pizza with goat cheese, peppers and mushrooms....We had to wait almost 45 minutes and the results were mixed. The organic multi-grain xtra thin crust was about the best I've had but the toppings were sparse. On each of the 8 slices in the 12" pie was maybe a couple of small pieces of pepper and 1 small slice of a mushroom. To compensate us for the long wait, when the pizza came we were given a bowl of melted cheese and 3 slice of Italian bread....If they really wanted to compensate us for the long wait, they really should have brought us something during the wait but not a bowl of melted cheese and bread once they brought the pie...A small salad would have been nice...I guess, like any restaurant, it's what you order that determines your opinion. We ordered that pie because the owner said it was the best one...The decor is intelligently designed and the service, courteous but the long wait for a sparse pie was not enough to make us want to come back. There are other pizza restaurants with better pies or slices albeit not organic. I can't vouch for the other menu selections.

The concept of an organic restaurant is a great idea. The interior is set up very nicely and one owner was very gracious. It's a new place and I'd like to see them succeed since they're offering healthful selections. But, I agree with the comment that the toppings on the pizza were meager. Hopefully, the restaurant will run more efficiently in the future. But, the idea of good quality food is what's important here.

@Curious George: From all of us at Naturale Cucina, we would like to express our gratitude for considering our restaurant. We take great pride in the product we put out as well the service that is accompanied with it. Hence why it is important that we duly reply to your post immediately. We happened to have an emergency in which our kitchen staff was minus one. To further delay things, ALL of our food is carefully prepared per order, at the moment. Nothing is frozen or pre-made. All is fresh. We truly regret that you were not happy with our complimentary Provoletta, or perhaps the timing of it. We just need for every customer to know that we remain consistent with our goal of putting out fresh, healthful fare that is fun to eat. We cordially invite you back to give us the opportunity to serve you again. You can ask for me, my name is Henry. I have owned many businesses therefore I am familiar with the old adage that mistakes happen…however, it is how you deal with those mistakes that makes who you are. We thank you in advance for everything and truly look forward to having you in again.

@ Curious George, I believe you caught them at a bad time, I have been there a few times already and I none of those times were disappointing. My pizza's were prepared to perfection and I found the toppings to be abundant. Also, the "bowl of melted cheese" you mentioned is probably one of the yummiest things I have ever eaten.

Brother's Pizza in EB has been around for over 25 years and they have never delivered. As long as the product is good, they can succeed.
Curious George June 02, 2012 at 03:40 AM
All I can say, is I take you at your word that you enjoyed what you ate and that's fine. Everyone has different expectations and tastes. I appreciate the authenticity in the preparation of the food but our experience wasn't what we expected. I hope they do well and make the necessary improvements to enable them to succeed.
Jill June 03, 2012 at 03:21 AM
We can't wait to try it! Anyone can have a poor experience even at the finest of restaurants. It's new and may take time to run smoothly but it's just what this town needed and I hope it works out. We are eager to try their pizza! I will leave my feedback after we dine there about our experience but I'm not looking for perfection from the new kid on the block. We'd be happy with good pizza and friendly service!

Awesome, finally an organic pizza place.. This place is going do some great business, I will be there with my family.....
Mrs. Windmill June 10, 2012 at 11:26 PM
Mrs. Windmill I have been there twice with my husband and two kids and we loved it. The service was warm, friendly, and attentive. I had the Siciliana and the La Patata. Both were amazing. The Tiramisu is to die for and the salad wih the granny smith apples, gorgonzola cheese and baby spinach is full of flavor and beyond good. The kids loved the cupcake platter and the unique drink choices (orange cream soda). This is one of our new favorite restuarants. Good luck to them. Keep up the excellent work.

My family and I ate there last friday, and there pizza is outstanding. We could not get over how good the crust was, you actually want to eat everything, including the crust. I had the Funghi pizza, excellent.. This is a must try place, and you can order it to go also.. The service was excellent, and the people working there are so nice.. People have to try this place, best pizza around.....

I had the pleasure of eating at Naturale Cucina with my wife and friends last night. We ordered 2 terrific salads and 3 amazing pizzas. There was nothing lacking in this meal. It was prepared with care and everything is very obviously hand made, tasty, super fresh, and perfectly prepared and served. It happens that everything is prepared with healthy ingredients and the choices are plentiful and i could have been sitting on Via Veneto in Rome eating no better then this. This is exactly what a potentially great town like Englishtown has been waiting for. We wish Henry and his partner great success. We will be back.
