January 30th is Deadline for FEMA Disaster Assistance Registration

The January 30th, 2013 deadline to file for FEMA disaster assistance is approaching quickly.

In December, because of the sheer size of Sandy, FEMA extended the disaster assistance registration deadline beyond the initial 60 day window.  But if you are planning to apply for assistance, time is running out as the January 30, 2013 deadline is approaching quickly.   Anyone with storm damage from Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey can register for assistance in any of the following ways:

  • online at www.diasterassistance.gov
  • via smartphone or tablets at m.fema.gov.
  • by phone or 711/VRS by calling 800-621-3362
  • TTY 800-462-7585 (the toll-free telephone numbers operate 24/7 until further notice.)

Disaster assistance from FEMA for both individuals and families can include money for rental assistance, home repairs, personal property losses and other disaster-related needs that are not covered by insurance.

After you apply for assistance, FEMA recommends but does not require that you create an account online (www.FEMA.gov) so that you can monitor your status and keep all your information up to date.

After you file for assistance, you can expect the following:

  • FEMA will send you a copy of your application along with an applicant guide.
  • An inspector may contact you to schedule an inspection of your damages.
  • You may be asked to complete some additional forms and provide some additional information.

To check the status of your application you can do the following:
