5 Things to Know Today in Manalapan: Columbus Day 2012

1. Sunny, Cool: The cool, crisp fall weather you’ve been waiting for (or dreading, depending on your preference) is finally here! The National Weather Service is calling for a mostly sunny day with a high temperature only hitting around 60. Tonight, expect a 60 percent chance of rain between 10 p.m. and midnight. Otherwise, the night will be cloudy and the low temperature drops to 43.

2. Columbus Day: Happy Columbus Day! Today we celebrate Christopher Columbus’ arrival to the Americas. Columbus Day has been a federal holiday since 1937, but each state chooses how to recognize the holiday. Luckily for you, today is a state holiday in New Jersey meaning all public schools are closed and some people have off of work!

3. Government:

  • The Manalapan Cable TV Advisory meets in room 213 of the Manalapan Township Municipal Building at 7:30 p.m.

 

 

4. Manalapan High School Sports:

  • All of today’s home games have been post pond to Oct. 9.

Away

  • Boys Sophomore Football vs. Red Bank Catholic High School at 10 a.m.

 

 

5. Howl-a-Ween: Bring your pet all dressed up in costume to the Animal Health Care of Marlboro for Howl-a-Ween! The staff will be taking pictures of all of the animals in costume and will hold a contest for the best dressed! Treat bags for cats, dogs, and other furry friends will be provided, as well as hypoallergenic treat bags for pets with sensitive stomachs. The event will take place all day. Animal Health Care of Marlboro is located at 299 Route 9 South in Marlboro.
