Five Things to Know Today: April 29, 2011

A compilation of the need to know info going on in, and around, Manalapan Township.

1. Arbor Day 2011: Head on over to Durand Park in Freehold Township today to commemorate State Arbor Day! Freehold Township was chosen to celebrate Arbor Day because the township has spent 30 years as a Tree City USA. The tree planting begins at 8 a.m., and the award ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Manalapan Township will also be honored with 20 year Tree City USA award.  For more information on the commemorative ceremony and tree planting, click . 

Arbor Day is a holiday all about planting trees! The first Arbor Day was celebrated in Nebraska City, Nebraska on April 10, 1872; approximately one million trees were planted that day.

2. Sunny Skies: Today will be mostly sunny with a high around 69, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, expect clouds to roll in and the temperatures to top. The low tonight will be near 42 degrees.

▪ Math Tips for SAT / PSAT Testing: A session of Math SAT and PSAT preparation techniques will be taught today from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. by Mathematics Professor Michael Carlin. Bring a pencil, paper, and sharp mind!

5. Paper Shredding Day:  Do you have a closet full of old, useless papers? Get rid of them this Saturday, April 30 at the Manalapan Paper Shredding Event! The mobile paper shredding shindig, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the , is funded by a State Recycling Grant.

Any confidential papers that you no longer need to use should be shredded so that you are not a target of identity theft. Be sure to remove all metals and  clips from the stack of papers (which should not exceed more than 100 lbs. per person).  The event is free. For more information, please call  732-446-8404.
