1. Clouds and Rain: Today will be mostly cloudy with a high of 83, according to the National Weather Service; there is a 50 percent chance of rainfall, some of which could be heavy. Tonight will remain mostly cloudy with a low temperature around 64 degrees. There is a 40 percent chance of precipitation before 2 a.m.

2. Flash Flood Watch: According to the National Weather Service, a flash flood watch is in effect for Monmouth County throughout late Friday night. Storms are expected to produce up to one half to one inch of rain, and localized amounts of up to four inches of rain are possible. Additional heavy rain in some areas may lead to flash flooding.

3. Follow Your MHS Student’s Grades: Principal Jeff Simon has announced the establishment of the Parent Portal of the Genesis Information System which will allow parents access to your child’s grades, disciplinary records, and attendance online. For more information on the system, read Simon’s full letter to parents here. Parents will receive their Parent Portal username and password in an email on Sept. 16. 
 

 

 

4. Rock n’ Roll at Battleground Country Club: This Saturday, Aug. 20 is Rock Night at the . At 8 p.m. the classic rock band Speed Limit will take the stage. For details, call 732-462-7575.
 

 

 

5. Hug Your Boss Day: While you may not ALWAYS want to give your boss a big hug, today is literally THE day to do it! Aug. 19 is National Hug Your Boss Day in England. While this is not an official national holiday in the states, the holiday was established in the UK to promote better inter-office relations. So, if you feel the need to give your boss an appreciative hug, just do it - and when your boss asks the reason for the affection tell him or her that Patch told you to!
