Five Things to Know Today: Independence Day Edition

A compilation of the need to know info and events going on in, and around, Manalapan Township this Independence Day.

1. Independence Day: On July 4, 1776 the United States of America adopted the Declaration of Independence, which announced autonomy from Great Britain. Thomas Jefferson was the main author of the document. July 4 has been observed every year following 1776, and was first called “Independence Day” in 1791.  

 

2. Perfect Holiday Weather: Today will be mostly sunny with a high around 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, expect partly cloudy skies and a low near 65. If you’re prone to being chilly be sure to bring a blanket or sweatshirt for the fireworks show!

3. Freehold Raceway Fireworks: The Freehold Raceway Fireworks, originally planned for Sunday, July 3, have been for tonight. The fireworks will begin at dusk; gates open at 5:30 p.m. Also enjoy live music by the RocknRoll Chorus and Turnstyles, face painters, balloon magicians and more!

4. Federal Holiday Closings: As a federal holiday, no mail will be delivered or collected today and all government offices will be closed. will also be closed. 

The Freehold Raceway Mall will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
