Five Things to Know: July 12, 2011

Here's what's up and what's going on today in and around Manalapan Township.

1. Severe Heat: The National Weather Service has issued a for today from noon to 8 p.m. A heat advisory means that a mixture of high humidity and hot temperatures create hazardous conditions. The hot and humid air mass will cause the temperatures to rise to the mid nineties and the heat index to reach between 100 and 105. Please drink plenty of fluids and restrict outside activity as heat illnesses are possible today. 

In Manalapan, the NWS is calling for a high of 94 and partly sunny skies, but there is a 30 percent possibility of showers and thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tonight, expect a low of 70 and partly cloudy skies.

2. Code Orange: Today, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued a code orange air quality alert which means that there is a high concentration of pollutants in the air within the region. Children, asthma sufferers, the elderly, and those suffering from heart and lung diseases should refrain from strenuous outdoor activity.

3. Government:

  • Economic Development Council meets tonight in room 216 of the at 7 p.m. 
  • Shade Tree Commission meets tonight in room 213 of the at 7:30 p.m. 

 

 

4. Escape to Asia: The is holding a seminar called about Asian Tea ceremonies, tea drinking, and tea making as a part of their Novel Destinations series.  Judith Krall-Russo, a tea expert, will present the workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tonight. 

 

 

5. Children's Theater in the Park: Come down to Kuschik Pavilion in the tonight at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy the second evening of Children's Theater as part of the Manalapan Parks and Recreation’s Night Recreation program. Tonight, you and the kids get to enjoy Yosi Levin in Concert. Yosi Levin is a funny, children's singer who gets children excited and jumping!
