Five Things to Know Today: July 28, 2011

A compilation of the need to know info and events going on in, and around, Manalapan Township.

1. Perfect Summer Day: The National Weather Service is calling for a partly sunny day with a high around 87 degrees. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low near 71.

 


2. Government: The , originally scheduled for tonight in the courtroom of the has been cancelled. The next scheduled meeting of the planning board will be on Aug. 11 at 8 p.m.

3. Monmouth County Fair: The , taking place at East Freehold Showgrounds, continues today from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Continue to pay the flat rate of $18 for entrance to all rides today. There will also be a petting farm, cirque-tacular, food booths, strolling entertainers, 4-H animal exhibits and 3 separate Friends of the Parks 50/50 Raffles. 4. Teenage Printmaking: Stop by the tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight with your teenager to ! Teens will etch a scene onto a relief block, dip it into ink, and then press the block down onto paper to transfer the image! Teenagers in grades six and higher can join the fun, but registration is required so please call 732-431-7222 or visit the reference desk at the library. 

 


5. Mail Call!: The United States Postal Service announced on Tuesday that by the USPS nationwide. Luckily, the Manalapan and Englishtown post offices are not listed under the branches being reviewed.  A fan of the written word myself, I am pleased that these post offices are not on the chopping block. I still love getting a hand-written letter or card delivered to my home. But, how often do YOU use snail mail? Do you think post offices are, or will be, obsolete? Tell us in the comments!
