Five Things to Know Today: June 17, 2011

A compilation of the need to know info and events going on in, and around, Manalapan Township.

Happy Friday, Manalapan!

1.)    Rainy weather. If you woke up this morning to birds chirping, flashes of lightning, rolling thunder, and rain, you are unfortunately not in the Rainforest Cafe restaurant in Menlo Park Mall. But according to the National Weather Service, there is a 60 percent chance of precipitation today. Scattered showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 11 a.m. Today will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 80 with a south wind between 7 and 10 mph. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Expect the chance of rain to continue into the evening with scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. It will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 61 and a  west wind between 3 and 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. There will be new rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch but higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

2.)   Alice Cooper just called. He said, "School’s out for summer." Today is the final half day for Manalapan-Englishtown Schools.

Manalapan-Englishtown Middle School will celebrate graduation at 11 a.m. at Brookdale Community College Collins Arena.

3.)   “Get Out” this weekend. Check out Freehold Patch editor Jacklyn Corley’s feature of fun events going on locally this weekend.  Events across Monmouth County include a right here in Manalapan Township, , pet adoption fair in Shrewsbury, in Lincroft and run/walk in Red Bank.

4.)   Don’t forget about This weekend is a great one for local history. In addition to the battleground reenactment, representatives of the Battleground Historical Society will be giving tours on June 18 and 19, 2011 from 12:00p.m.-5:00 p.m. each day.

There is an entrance fee of $2.00 for adults. Children 12 years of age and younger free.

 

5.)   Get your “Tangled” Tickets. Next week is an opportunity to relive Disney magic on the big screen. On June 25 10 a.m., the is a of the new Disney hit “Tangled.” Free tickets are available at the Children's Desk starting at 9 a.m. on June 17.  This is an in-person opportunity only.
