Five Things to Know Today: June 28, 2011

1. Possible Storms: There is a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. today, some of which could be produce heavy amounts of rain. The rest of the day will be mostly sunny with a high of 84, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, there is a 60 percent chance of precipitation and a low of 66.

 

2. Air Quality Alert: The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued an air quality alert for today. Ozone levels are forecasted to reach unhealthy levels today, which will be dangerous for certain sensitive groups (senior citizens, asthma sufferers, and young people). The dangerous levels are due to an increase in southerly winds, swelling humidity, and warm temperatures. The DEP recommends minimizing arduous outdoor activities during the afternoon and evening.
