Five Things You Need To Know

A list of five things you need to know today, Feb. 9.

1. Dress warm, Manalapan. It will be mostly sunny Wednesday with a high of 29 degrees, but the wind chill factor will make temperatures feel like -3 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

2. The Monmouth County Library will host a teen drum circle at headquarters beginning at 6:30 p.m.  No musical training is required for the event which will have acclaimed jazz musician Richard Reiter, who studied African drumming in Senegal, leading the beat.

3. Know of any historic buildings in Manalapan or Englishtown that you think are worthy of recognition? The Monmouth County Historical Commission is accepting nominations for its annual preservation awards program. Any structure, including office buildings, houses of worship, public buildings and homes, that is over 50 years old, has historic value, and has undergone preservation work in 2010 is eligible for the award.

Visit Monmouth County’s Web site for entry information and an application. Completed applications should be mailed to Monmouth County Historical Commission, Hall of Records Annex, 2nd floor, Freehold, NJ 07728 by Friday, April 1.

4. The Manalapan Township Committee will meet Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at the Manalapan Municipal Building, 120 County Road 522.
