Five Things You Need to Know Today: June 10, 2011

Hey Manalapan! It's Friday. The popular saying used to be, "TGIF." But now, thanks to Rebecca Black, it's "Gotta get down on Friday!" Here's what's going on:
1.) Sweet heat relief! Today will be hot, but not nearly as stifling as yesterday. The day will begin with some patchy fog before 8 a.m. The high will near 89 degrees with a 30 percent change of precipitation. In the evening, bring the umbrella; there’s a 50 percent change of showers and thunderstorms.

2.) Protect your identity. The headquarters, located at 125 Symmes Road, will host an identity theft lecture from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The presenter is Delores Hughes, Counselor and Conflict Educator for Money Management International (MMI), who will provide some simple rules for keeping the information in your wallet safe.

4.) Don’t wait for the next heat wave - Sign up for the Marlboro Swim Club! In case you missed the announcement, there is a new shared services agreement that allows Manalapan residents to dive into Marlboro Swim Club's pool.
5.) Congratulations to a local idol. On Wednesday, Manalapan High School freshman Allie Gorenc tied for first place in Freehold Idol after wowing the judges with her rendition of “Never Neverland.” Allie will move on to the final round which will take place on August 17.
