Flood Watch in Effect Through Late Tonight

NOAA issues flood watch and coastal flood advisory tonight, Wednesday, May 18.

The National Weather Service has issued a "Hazardous Weather Outlook" for central and northern New Jersey.

A flood watch is in effect through late tonight with a possibility of 2 to 4 inches of rainfall accumulation, with higher amounts possible. The reason for the heavy rainfall according to the National Weather Service is a low pressure system that is moving northwestward from North Carolina to the Ohio Valley.

"Because of the slow movement of the low and the track itself, our region will experience a prolonged and moisture rich southeasterly flow that is likely to result in periods of moderate to heavy rain through Wednesday night,"a flood watch release issued by the National Weather Service said. There is a potential for flooding so all should be careful!

A coastal flood advisory is also in effect from 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 until 1 a.m. Thursday, May 19. Southeastern swell is expected to reach 3 to 5 feet, and minor flooding is expected during high tide this evening.

Do not leave your car in an area which is prone to tidal flooding, and do not attempt to drive your vehicle through these floods, the salt water severely damages the car and is expensive to repair (if it can be repaired).
