Manalapan Asks Residents to Prepare for Snow and Power Outages

The local government issued a statement on how to best prepare for the upcoming snow storm.

The National Weather Service has advised that this afternoon’s rain should transition into a wintery mix and then become all snow later this evening and tonight, with total accumulations of 1 to 3 inches in Manalapan Township.

The larger concern will be the consistent strong easterly winds that will continue to gust around 40 MPH throughout the night and into tomorrow, a news release issued by the Manalapan Township Committee said. The local government wishes to adivse people to secure all items on your property and take all precautions if you are out on the roadways tonight.

It is important to prepare for power outages if they may occur:

  • Light. Keep a flashlight and extra batteries handy. Use care when burning candles; open flames are a dangerous fire hazard.
  • Warmth. Have extra blankets or a sleeping bag for each person. Do not use gas stoves, grills or other open-flame appliances as a heat source. They could cause deadly carbon monoxide gas could build up in your home.
  • Water. If you have water well and pump, keep an emergency supply of bottled water.
  •  Food. If your home has an electric range, stock an emergency supply of convenience foods that do not require cooking.
  • News and information. Keep a battery-powered radio with extra batteries on hand

As part of JCP&L’s storm response plan, they are closely tracking the severe storm that is expected to bring heavy rains and wind gusts into Thursday.  

In anticipation of the severe weather, all available JCP&L crews and support personnel are prepared to work around the clock to restore service should weather-related outages occur.  

Call centers will be fully staffed.  Customers who are without power are encouraged to call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com via smartphone.  Please report all outages and be sure that you receive a confirmation number.
