Manalapan Candlelight Vigil Commemorates 9/11

Residents came out to the Manalapan memorial to pay their respects to those who lost their lives on Sept. 11.

A lot of Manalapan residents came to the Sept. 11 Memorial within the Manalapan Township Arboretum on Sunday to acknowledge the tenth anniversary of Sept. 11 and pay tribute to those who lost their lives.

Pastor Mike of delivered the invocation of the service, saying that the attacks on the World Trade Center are this generation's JFK assasination in that everyone can remember where you were and what you were doing when you heard the news.

As the light of the candles were passed along throughout the crowd, Deputy Mayor Ryan Green read off all of the names of the Manalapan residents who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

Mayor Andrew Lucas later spoke on the terrorist attacks while the candles were lit. "While we can't ever forget the lives that were lost ten years ago I think it's entirely appropriate to celebrate the bravery and heroism of all of our first responders, of our troops, and of our fellow citizens that came together - not just that day, but every day," Lucas said.

A moment of silence was held out of respect for all those who died that day. Rabbi Boruch Chazanow of Chabad Lubavitch of Western Monmouth County led the benediction.
