Photo Gallery: "Muster in Manalapan" Acknowledges 150 Years Since the Civil War

The Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan hosted the "Muster In Manalapan" Commemorating The Civil War Sesquicentennial.

Actors dressed in military uniform and traditional 1860's garb took over the Monmouth County Library on Sunday, April 10 -- including a visit from Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd!

The library headquarters traveled back in time to the 19th century in commemoration of the 150th anniversary since the Civil War. The afternoon of educational programs and speakers, authentic food from the time period, and entertaining vendors took place from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Author and noted lecturer, A. Wilson Greene, was the keynote speaker at the event. Greene, the executive director of Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier located near Petersburg, Virginia, spoke from and about his book Avoidable Tragedy or Irrepressible Conflict: Was the Civil War Inevitable?

The mood was set by music from the Libby Prison Minstrels, and the 19th century inspired food was supplied by Whole Foods Market in Middletown.

Keep the 150th anniversary of the Civil War commemoration going by visiting all of the other library sponsored events during April and May. For a full list of upcoming events, click here.
