Expect heavy rain and flooding, cloud to ground lightning, and damaging winds.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Monmouth County until 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, stating the storm is capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph, deadly cloud to ground lightning, and destructive hail.

As of 4:30 p.m. the NWS spotted the storm seven miles south of Trenton and moving east at a rate of 20 miles per hour.

The NWS is urging residents to take precautionary measures and move inside to a strong building away from windows. Heavy rain is expected, which may cause flooding to low-lying or poor drainage areas.

There is an urban and small stream flood advisory for central New Jersey until 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

While the earlier there were heavy downpours producing around 1.5 inches of water, there is an additional storm headed eastward which will contribute further showers and thunderstorms. "The additional heavy downpours will enhance the runoff and result in some flooding in areas of poor drainage and on roadways," the flood advisory said.
