Snow in October?!, What to Expect

The National Weather Service predicts an accumulation of 1 to 3 inches of snow for our area.

The National Weather Service has issued an Early Winter Weather Advisory for our region which will remain in effect until 2 a.m. tomorrow morning. Wet, heavy snow will fall into late tonight potentially ending between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

The snow could lead to substantial transportation delays and cause power outages, according to the NWS. As the temps drop to freezing, the NWS is advising people to stay off secondary roads, as they will become extremely slippery and the falling snow will decrease visibility to potentially under one mile.

Also, the heavy wet snow will significantly impact the power lines and possibly cause power outages. Strong north winds between 21 and 26 MPH, with gusts as high as 37 mph in Manalapan may also cause problems to power lines and cause fallen trees. If you have lost your power, please contact Jersey Central Power & Light at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), or report it on their Web site. Currently, there are no power outages reported in Manalapan and Englishtown.

The area along the New Jersey Turnpike and west of it (from around Philadelphia to near New Bruswick and westward) will receive the largest amount of heavy and wet snow.

More snow will gather on non-paved surfaces at higher elevations, so take caution. Accumulations of one to three inches of snow are projected for our area. The low tonight will hit 33 degrees. Tomorrow the high temperature will hit 45 degrees and no more snow is expected to fall, hopefully it will all melt before Halloween!
