Week Ahead: Discuss Acclaimed Documentary with Directors

Manalapan Government

  • Channel 77 Volunteers are meeting in room 216 of the Manalapan Township Municipal Building at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 6.
  • The Community Alliance is meeting in the Manalapan Senior Center at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7.
  • The Planning Board is meeting in the courtroom of the Manalapan Township Municipal Building at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 9.
  • The Teen Leadership Committee is meeting in the downstairs section of the Police Department within the Manalapan Township Municipal Building at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9.
  • The Municipal Agricultural Advisory Committee is meeting in room 213 of the Manalapan Township Municipal Building at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 9.

Manalapan Schools

The Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District Board of Education is having a Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional Schools Administration Building on Main Street in Englishtown.

The Board of Education is also holding an executive session meeting on Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m. for the purpose of discussing the Superintendent’s Evaluation of the district. This meeting will also be held at the district administration building.

 

Monmouth County Library

The Monmouth County Library is showing the acclaimed documentary The Central Park Five on Monday, May 6 at 2 p.m., followed by a discussion via Skype with two of the film's directors, Sarah Burns and David McMahon (the third directors is Ken Burns).

This documentary examines the case of five young black and Latino teenagers wrongfully imprisoned for the brutal rape of a white woman in Central Park in 1989. They spent between 5 and 13 years in prison before being released when another person confessed to the crime.
