Manalapan Candidate Profile: David Goldstein

Goldstein is running for the Manalapan Township Committee o the Democratic ticket.

Manalapan voters will go the polls on the Nov. 5 to fill three empty seats on the Manalapan Township Committee. The all-Republican Committee has two candidates vying to reclaim their seats, including Deputy Mayor Jordan Maskowitz and Committeeman Jack McNaboe.

Maskowitz is running for a full three year term and McNaboe is running for a one year term. McNaboe filled Don Holland’s seat, left vacant when he resigned from the Committee in early March. Holland’s term was set to expire in December 2014, which is why a one year term is empty.

Another three year term is available as Committeeman Andrew Lucas’ term was set to expire and he chose not to run for reelection. Before the term expired, however, Lucas chose to resign from his position. On the Republican slate, Maryann Musich is running to fill this seat .

DAVID GOLDSTEIN CANDIDATE PROFILE

Name: David Goldstein

Age: 53

Education: BA Brooklyn College Political Science

Occupation: Director of Organizational Effectiveness Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties

1. Please introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your background and why you should be elected.

I have served on the board of directors for two separate chambers of commerce and have a proven track record in both the corporate and not-for-profit worlds in leadership. I have planned multimilliondollar budgets and have successfully achieved the goals of those budgets. I am an avid volunteer and have been for many years. I also served as Chair for the NYC VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster) which gives me the skills to help prepare and react in times of disaster. During Hurricane Sandy I spent countless hours ensuring over 9 million pounds of food and supplies were delivered to both those affected by the storm and those in daily need as well as our first responders.

I spent more than 27 years at UPS in different leadership positions and was honored as a Centennial Employee, four years as Vice President of Operations for the Food Bank for New York City, and I am currently the Director of Organizational Effectiveness at the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

I bring strong business acumen, promote bilateral collaboration, provide high accessibility and will ask the unpopular questions.

My experience and knowledge affords me the ability to work in a non partisan way which will help move Manalapan in a positive direction. I am committed to serving the residents of Manalapan in a completely transparent manner.

2. What do you think distinguishes you from other candidates? What do you bring to the table?

I could not sit back and allow another controversial land deal to take place, for residents of our town being treated differently than its elected officials, residents speaking up but not being heard, increased crime, lack of economic development and misuse of power. It is time for transparency, collaboration, inclusiveness, forward thinking, smart planning and integrity to be restored to our town. I bring a strong history of collaboration, inclusiveness, forward thinking, smart planning, transparency and most importantly integrity to the table. My work back ground as a leader for fortune 50 company and a proven track record in the not for profit world is proof positive of my success and that experience and commitment will come with me to the Township Committee.

3. What are the most pressing issues facing the community today? How would you approach and resolve these issues?

The issues of taxes is a constant topic as I speak to the residents of Manalapan. In order to keep our taxes at a level people can accept, we need to build our economic development and bring in new revenues. We need to have broad forward thinking in the way we manage our municipal finances. We need to build a marketing plan for Manalapan and develop a local Chamber of Commerce, bringing local business owners to the table. We need to conduct a town wide operational audit to find and eliminate wasteful spending. i intend to reexamine all vendor contracts to ensure they are competitive. This would help the town manage taxpayer money more efficiently and effectively.
