Red Lips for the Holidays or Any Day!

Nothing says "holiday makeup" like red lips.  Every woman looks great in red, but it is the shade of red and how you apply it that makes all the difference. Red lipsticks are either blue-based (think pinky reds and good for women with pink undertones) or yellow based (think orangey reds and more suited for women with warm undertones).

Once you find your perfect shade of red lipstick ( a makeup artist with a keen eye for color can select it for you) how you apply it can take you from day to night.

To get a tint of color on the lips apply it with your finger and no lip-liner (red is a color that can stand alone without a lip-liner - most can not).

For a more finished look, line the lips and apply directly from the tube. To add a festive look go over the center of the bottom lip with gold eyeshadow, this gives the lips a velvety look. 

For real holiday glamour add a high-gloss on top of the color.  You won't believe how much the perfect red lipstick can add to your holiday look.  Just remember to keep the eyeshadow more neutral and smokey and the cheeks soft if you don't want to appear too made up.

A woman has to be incredibly confident to rock a red lipstick - it is the one color women fear on their lips.   It makes an impact - it gets you noticed and it says "here I am - look at me". 

In today's dressed down world where people hardly dress-up for anything anymore red is a dressier, more sophisticated look.  I sent my daughter to school today in what to me looks like PJ's but Justice swears to me are pants!  Hardly the look my mother's generation wore or even us 80's girls were used to (I can do an entire blog about the 80's fashions).  But every generation defines itself.  Back to red lips....

I love a red lip on almost anyone - but it has to be the right red.  So be brave, go find your perfect red and rock it this holiday season - you will be surprised at how festive you feel just by wearing a gorgeous red lip!  Don't wear it with your PJ's though!
