Tenth Annual 'Walk with Joe' to Honor Local Flight 93 Hero

The 5K walk is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m at Monmouth Battlefield.

, a memorial 5K walk in memory of Patrick ‘Joe’ Driscoll, who lost his life on Flight 93 on Sept. 11, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. at Monmouth Battlefield State Park.

Walk with Joe is in the its 10th year and has collected more than $250,000 since the first walk in 2002. The walk not only recognizes Driscoll, but also commemorates all of the men and women who lost their lives on United Flight 93 nearly 11 years ago.

Additionally, Walk with Joe this year will also remember Christopher Gray, son of former Manalapan mayor Jim Gray, and Thomas J. McCann, a FDNY first responder who both lost their lives in the twin towers on Sept. 11, 2001.

Walk with Joe donates money to a mix of charities including the Samaritan Center,  the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pa., the Christopher Gray Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of West Virginia, the Child Advocacy Center in Freehold,  the American Recreational Military Services (ARMS), the Freehold Open Door Food Bank, Monmouth Battlefield State Park, the Monmouth County Mount Mitchell Park, Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, youth athletic programs, the RJM Foundation (a special needs youth organization), and non-profit organizations serving the Manalapan area with humanitarian aid and programs.

The cost to participate in the walk is $15 per person; children 7-years-old and younger can walk for free. All registrants will receive a Walk with Joe T-shirt. To register for the walk online, click here.  On site registration and T-shirt pickup begins at 8:30 a.m.
