Monmouth County Library offers US citizenship course this fall

Do you want to become a United States citizen? Get help to prepare for the citizenship test at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan this fall, as the Library launches its first citizenship course.

 

Library Headquarters will hold a 12-week program to help those who wish to take the citizenship test. The classes will be held on  Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The schedule will be as follows: September 10, 17 and 24; October 1, 8, 22 and 29; November 12 and 19; and December 3, 10, and 17.

You must register for this program, either by phone, in person at the library, or online. Space is limited. Registration ends August 31, but may close earlier if the class fills up.

To register by phone, please call 732-431-7220, x7222. To register in person, come to the reference desk at Library Headquarters, located at 125 Symmes Drive in Manalapan.

To register online, go to the Library webpage at www.monmouthcountylib.org and click on the link contained in the calendar of events under the dates of the courses.

 

The program is open to adults 18 years and older with permanent residency status (green card holders), and will be taught by retired educators and an attorney. The test will not be administered as part of the class. The test for US citizenship is only administered by US Citizenship and Immigration Services

 

The goal of this course is to provide U.S. permanent residents with the knowledge and background information important to becoming well-informed naturalized citizens. In addition to teaching students the questions and answers they will need to know for the citizenship test, the instructors will enhance that educational experience by discussing topics in American history, government, geography and culture.
