Former Manalapan Resident dies at 97

Mary Kaskauskas died on Saturday.

Mary (Obuchowicz) Kaskauskas, 97, of Toms River, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in South Amboy, she resided in Union Beach, Sayreville and Manalapan before moving to Toms River. She worked in the meat department and as a cashier with A&P Supermarket. She enjoyed playing bingo. Mary was a "Rosie the Riveter" building ships during the war.

Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Kaskauskas; her two sons, Joseph and John Kaskauskas; and her siblings, Pearl Obuchowicz; Helen Leonard and Stanley Obuchowicz. She is survived by a niece and five nephews, Linda Ooms, John Obuchowicz, Robert Obuchowicz, Henry Leonard, Richard Leonard and Donald Leonard. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are invited from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport; and 9:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at the funeral home, with a 10:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph R.C. Church, Keyport. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport.
