Gordons Corner Fire Company Founding Member Dies

Robert W. ("Bob") Dalzell Jr., of W. Melbourne, Fla., died on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012. Born in Montclair, NJ on June 9, 1929, Bob lived most of his life in Manalapan, NJ where he and his loving wife of 60 years, Regina ("Jean"), raised nine children.

He had a successful career as a sales professional before retiring to Florida in 1999. Dalzell served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lt. in 1953. He was a founding member of the Gordons Corner Fire Company, a volunteer company started in 1962 that even today uses the cartoon logo that he sketched out on his kitchen table.

When his children were young, he was involved in their many activities, always putting them ahead of all else. As we became teenagers, he was always one step ahead of us and we were never as smart as we thought. But at the same time, he was always behind us and supportive in anything we needed. Bob was beloved by many for his dedication to family, his sharp sense of humor, and a huge heart that in the end could no longer keep him with us.

In addition to his wife Jean, Bob is survived by his sister, Dianne Cahill; and his sister, Joan Trecartin and her husband John. He will be missed dearly by his nine loving children: daughter, Tracy Scavone; son, Robbie and his wife Christine; son, Christopher; daughter, Diane Weiss and her husband Steve; Tom and his wife Krystyna; Jeannette Shevlino and her husband Jim; son, Steven; daughter, Kate; and son, John. He was also blessed with 20 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.

Inurnment and services at the BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ will be at a later date.
