Letter to the Editor: Help Local Foster Children

A Manalapan resident brings awareness to the high number of local foster children in need of homes.

I am concerned that not many people are aware that May was National Foster Care Month. I waited until June to see if there were any articles or information published regarding this. To my knowledge nothing was written in the local media about National Foster Care Month, although there was an article in the Asbury Park Press on June 1 about National Donut Day. This is a disgrace!

It saddens me to think that the over 400,000 children nationally who are in foster care have received no recognition by the media. These children did not ask to be in foster care and each day they struggle with the uncertainties of tomorrow.  All children deserve a happy and safe life. We need to get the word out about these children  and encourage people to get involved.

Over the past few months there have been record breaking numbers of children removed from their homes in Monmouth County. There is a desperate need for good foster homes.

Please help us to put out the word to let people know how important they can be in a child's life and the difference they can make in a child's future.
