Driving Ban Lifted, OEM Fields 321 Calls During the Storm

The Manalapan Police and Fire Department responded to calls about fires, fallen trees and wires, flooding, water rescue, traffic emergencies, and first aid.

As of 1 p.m. on Aug. 28 the driving ban in Manalapan Township has been lifted, according to the Manalapan Township Office of Emergency Management.

The Office of Emergency Management Public Information Officer Judith Drucker has supplied Patch with information on the emergency actions taken by the Manalapan Township Police Department and Fire Department during, and after, Hurricane Irene struck. The OEM fielded 321 calls during the storm, according to Drucker.

"The job isn’t done as the remnants of the storm will be lingering for a lot longer," Drucker said.

The Office of Emergency Management will remain active until the state returns to a non-emergency status, according to Drucker. "Even then, there will be a Damage Assessment Team meeting to review what challenges we faced and how we can improve on our operation if the situation ever presents itself again," she said.
