Englishtown Woman Indicted on Aggravated Assault and Weapons Charges

Jeanette Mercado, of Englishtown, allegedly attempted to hurt another individual with a knife.

An Englishtown woman was indicted by the Monmouth County Grand Jury last week for allegedly assaulting an individual with a deadly weapon.

Jeanette Mercado, 48, was indicted on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

According to the indictment issued by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Mercado committed the crime of aggravated assault in Englishtown on Feb. 7 of this year. The indictment alleges that Mercado attempted to cause bodily harm to an individual using a knife as a weapon.

Regardless of the charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution and state law.
