Fraudulent Insurance Scam Targets Manalapan Seniors

Several suspicious phone calls were made to local senior citizens in an effort to receive personal information.

A variety of questionable phone calls to local senior citizens have been reported recently, according to the Manalapan Police Department. Individuals posing as Medicare or Medicaid employees are contacting Manalapan senior citizens and requesting bank account information over the phone in order to keep their insurance accounts up to date.

The victims have informed police of the phone number making the fraudulent claims, made visible on their caller ID. When the number is dialed, however, an audio recording states that the telephone number is not in service, according to police.

The Manalapan Police Department wishes to urge citizens to not dispense any personal information over the telephone. If you, or someone you know, receives a fraudulent phone call requesting personal information, please contact the Manalapan Police Department at 732-446-4300.
