Man Charged with Attempting to Hit 2 Englishtown Cops with Car

He also has been charged with theft and fleeing the scene of an apprehension.

A Freehold man has been arrested and charged with allegedly attempting to commit assault on officers, attempting to flee the scene of apprehension, and theft in the Borough of Englishtown.

Timothy Williams, 36, allegedly committed aggravated assault on two Englishtown police officers on Sept. 3 by attempting to cause bodily harm to Officer Costagliola and Corporal Martinson. Williams attempted to hit both police officers with his car while they were seeking to apprehend him.

Williams also attempted to flee the scene after he was pulled over, the police report states. He allegedly stopped his car at the Union Hill Corporation on Water Street and, once officers exited their vehicles, he locked himself inside of his car, refused to exit the vehicle when ordered by police to come out, and then fled the scene. Williams ignored Officer Zapora’s hand signal to bring his car to a full stop and left the scene, the police report said.

Williams also had four loose pills of Klonapin, a schedule IV narcotic, which was not obtained directly from a practitioner or under a valid prescription, on his person, according to the police report.

Also, Williams had a wallet belonging to a Jonathan E. Tasch in his possession, which included Tasch’s credit cards and other items. Williams also had a Capital One credit card belonging to a Joe Lucarelli in his possession.

Both the wallet and credit card came into Williams’ possession by accident, and therefore he is being charged for theft since the person who came into possession of the property knows the identity of the owner, failed to return it, and converted it to his own property.

The Englishtown Police Department charged Williams on 15 different counts. His initial appearance in front of John G. Colannino of Monmouth County court was set for Nov. 16.

Regardless of the charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution and state law.
