UPDATE: Man Charged with Shoplifting iPods from Best Buy is Cleaning Worker

Numerous iPods, valued over $8K, were supposedly attempted to be stolen from the store.

Carlos Peralta, a Freehold resident, was charged with allegedly attempting to shoplift over eight thousand dollars worth of iPods from Best Buy in Manalapan.

According to a police report issued by the , Peralta, 49, purportedly attempted to steal 29 iPod Touches, 1 iPod Nano and 2 iPod Shuffles from the electronics retailer on Oct. 9.  The total value of the iPods is equivalent to $8,348.68.

Peralta took the iPods from a locked cage in a storage area when he was working overnight at the Best Buy as a cleaner, the Asbury Park Press reported. Video surveilance helped the catch Peralta, the press said.

Perlata's bail is set at $10,000, and his initial appearance in front of Monmouth County Judge John. G. Collanino is on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at noon.
