Manalapan Couple Guarding $15K Worth of Jewelry Allegedly Sell for Profit

The jewelry was given to the couple to hold on to approximately one year ago.

The are reporting that a Manalapan woman's jewelry may have been sold for profit by a couple who had been asked to guard the jewelry for "safekeeping".

According to police, Ptl. Bryan Belardo arrived at the victim's home regarding the theft on July 20. The 37-year-old woman told Belardo that she had provided a friend, a 43-year-old woman, also of Manalapan, a box of jewelry valued at $15,000 to hold on to for safekeeping about one year ago.

The reason the woman provided her valuables to another for safekeeping are not known by police.

The woman and her husband, 49, reputedly sold the jewelry and kept the profits for themselves, police said. Manalapan police Capt. Mike Fountain said that no reason for why the couple sold the jewelry has been revealed.

This case is pending further investigation.
