Manalapan Man Accused of Lying to Police to Avoid Detection

Police say he was wanted on active warrants for willful non-support.

A Manalapan man is accused of trying to dodge police in order to avoid warrants for his arrest on willful non-support charges in Monmouth County Superior Court.

Willful non-support is a fourth degree offense for the failure of a capable person to provide support to a spouse, child or other dependent.

Steven Dubois, 42, of Dawn Road in Manalapan was stopped by Tinton Falls Police on a motor vehicle violation. The police allege he gave his name as "Forman Dubois" in order to prevent his own apprehension, and then fled on foot from the scene of the motor vehicle stop after he was identified as Steven Dubois by way of DMV photo.

Tinton Falls Police charged him with resisting arrest, hindering his own prosecution by providing false information and contempt of court. He is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold on $4,500 bail on the charges.

According to Monmouth County Sheriff's records on APP.com's Data Universe, Dubois is also being held on bail of $38,454 for one non-support alleged offense, and $70,062 for another.

His first appearance before a judge is scheduled for July 1.

An arrest is not a conviction.
